But, Apple has yet to officially come out and support AR on the iPhone. The Paris Metro Subway and Yelp iPhone apps recently pushed updates to the AppStore that enabled AR features – these updates were presumably snuck past Apple. But, we have yet to see standalone iPhone AR apps hitting the AppStore. New rumors have Apple officially give their blessing to augmented reality apps on iPhone OS 3.1 as soon as next week!

It’s widely believed that Apple is waiting on the iPhone OS 3.1 before giving AR apps their blessing. We know of at least one iPhone AR app that will launch on the AppStore next week, which hints at the iPhone OS 3.1 update going live around the same time. With the update, AT&T users might even see MMS become a reality.

There’s also the possibility that Apple will announce iPhone OS 3.1 at a press event next week.

Fingers crossed!
