Huawei, a Chinese network infrastructure vendor who also sells mobile phones on the sides, has successfully tested 56 megabit/sec HSPA+ in China during a wireless conference this week. They say they’ll be able to sell this type of technology in 2010, and it really makes you wonder, why bother switching to LTE right now? Operators can delay, delay, and delay some more, HSPA+ is looking to be a nice cheap bump in download and uplinks speeds. If you’re an operator already using Huawei’s fourth generation network equipment then this speed boost is accessible via a simple software upgrade! The theoretical limit for HSPA+, as far as I know, is only 42 megabit/sec so I have no idea what kind of Chinese magic they’re pulling to hit 56 megabit/sec. Me thinks they’re not running at a standards compliant speed.
