Bluetooth Low Energy is a new open standard that the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) is trying to make popular. It’s kind of hard without any chips on the market that support the new standard, but Texas Instruments is looking to fix that with the CC2540. It’s a complete system on chip that measures only 6 mm x 6 mm and offers support for both dual and single mode BT Low Energy. Running on just a watch battery, the CC2540 can be powered for over a year. Expect to see this in devices in 2010.
