Other objections included black-and-white statements that resistive screens don’t support multi-touch – with a couple of minutes Googling, I think you’ll find that multi-touch on a resistive screen is entirely possible – it just happens not to be on the N900 – shame …
Others were of the opinion that I must be an Apple Fanboi – something I strenuously deny. Oh, BTW, the pictures above were taken using an iPhone 3GS

About The Author
Ben Robinson
Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career
when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has
now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the
next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas!
He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently
became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years
when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to
'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make
your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device)
isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question
of why you continue to use it...
His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and
infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the
occasional look at devices. Additionally, using his extensive experience
in the industry, he will provide commentary on the industry at large, with
regular (and hopefully thought-provoking) articles.

I will not do it…!!
When can I get this damn phone!!!!! On my way after work to get the Blackberry 9700 today. Two different devices but not sure how long I can hold out. I love my Javelin but I’m a junkie. I need something black, shiny and new…
Dans
Reading yesterdays post left me thinking you knew very little of the Maemo world, which is fine, but be nice to get some views from a few members of the team with differing previous experiences.

I completely agree. You deserve the bashing you received from yesterday’s….(for lack of a better word like, review) once-over. I’m gathering that absolutely no homework was done on this device and that you thought you could just pop it out of the box and fire it up and download some apps, you’d have yourself a “Finnish Branded” iPhone.
C’mon dude…!!! You didn’t even talk about what comes in the box!!! There are more adapters, chargers, data cables and high end headsets than I’ve ever seen come along with a phone and you’re bitching about a case not coming with it. I thought it was funny you denying your allegiance to iPhone, yet the photos taken were from an iPhone. And you mentioned that. I don’t get it…

the applefan boy have spoke again , who have no clue of real smartphones ! You must be kidding that was the worst phonecamera pics I ever see ! Please take next pics with a phone who have a decent camera onboard.

LMFAOOO? Okay. I agree with everyone that you’re definately bashing a great device. But the photos taken are not bad quality. I’ve seen worse.
Drew
In my opinion they were pretty good!!
Benji
Forget all the bashing junk… Where did you order the phone from? Did you pick it up in store, or a website? Or is it one of the pre-production models?
Intosh
Primitive people (mostly in the US) should keep using primitive and crippled toyphones, like the iPhone. Your limited intelligence can’t handle the power and versatility of real smartphones.

I can’t keep up with your logic. If you can find a few results with Google that say resistive multitouch has been demoed at some recent tech event, that means Nokia is just being lazy not implementing it on Nokia N900?
On the other hand, maybe we should be thankful that you eventually did your first research concerning the device.
Ben Robinson
Benji: The N900 has come direct from Nokia – it is a full retail model, and as such has all the accessories + device in the retail box (as per the pic above).
I’m sure it will be in retail channels soon enough – not long to wait now for those that have pre-ordered

There seems to be a lot of iPhone comparisons to the Nokia N900 – which is completely unjustifed!
From the beginning the N900 was positioned as a portable computer with the ability to make phone calls part of it’s many features. It was never meant to be the sole focus of its design.
What about the TV-Out facility of the N900 or that someone has linked a Nintendo Wii remote to the N900 (it’s on you-tube someone playing an SNES emulator on the N900, plugged into a TV and using the wii remote as a controller)?
This device is aimed at a DIFFERENT TYPE OF USER – e.g. geeky people like.
The iPhone is ideal for someone who SIMPLY wants a phone, download apps and ability to surf Internet. That is the design focus.
As far as I understand “resistant” touch screens are more accurate (at pixel level?) than “capacitance” screens.
There is probably no multitouch because of Apple patent issues.
