nprlogo_138x46Android users need not envy iPhone users for their NPR iPhone app. The folks responsible for the National Public Radio’s NPR News app will soon launch an Android version of the app on the Android market. And, with custom-content features that aren’t available with the iPhone, it should be iPhoners that envy the Android app.NPRmobile

The Android version of the NPR News app will launch later this month, and will feature customization options that allow participating radio stations to push local news content to the app. The NPR app will also stream radio broadcasts while running in the background, allowing the user to listen to the broadcast while, say, sending a text message or checking email.

[Update]
NPR has also updated their website with a mobile-friendly version that streams radio broadcasts directly to iPhone users via the integrated Quicktime player. The NPR mobile site lets you browse content by programs or radio stations. Find the new NPR mobile site at http://m.npr.org.
