When it comes to GPS navigation apps for the iPhone, you can go a couple of routes (no pun intended). You can buy a full-featured iPhone app, like TomTom or CoPilot Live, and use the app until the wheels on your car fall off. Or, you can download a free app, like AT&T Navigator, and pay for GPS navigation service on a monthly or yearly basis. Those of you in the latter camp will be happy to hear that AT&T has updated their iPhone app with a couple new features.
The updated AT&T Navigator app [iTunes link] now supports:
- Landscape view
- iPod integration for full music control
- AT&T WiFi HotSpot listings in Point-Of-Interest (POI) search
The AT&T Navigator app is free, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get GPS navigation services for free. Monthly subscription to the service costs $9.99, but you can save yourself a bundle by purchasing a year of service for $69.99. Or, you know, grab an Android phone with Google Maps Navigation included free of charge.
Take note, though, if you plan to travel to an area with spotty service, you’ll want to think twice about the AT&T Navigator app. It pulls map data as you go, so if you lose your data connection, you lose your maps.
