Following directly on from the last piece I wrote on the iPhone launching on Vodafone UK on Jan 14, it would also appear that HTC are dropping the HD2 from their range before that date!

According to our buddies over at Electricpig, Vodafone have confirmed they will not continue to stock the device:

We’ve had official word from Vodafone on the fate of the HTC HD2 this afternoon, with a spokesman stating “We are not re-stocking the HTC HD2 for general consumer sales once current stock runs out. We have had a massive amount of interest in it, and our initial stock sold out quickly. Subsequent deliveries have been used to fulfil backorders, but we are not looking to re-stock the device.”

Explaining the move, our man at Vodafone said the HTC HD2 didn’t have a place in its line-up, purely because of other devices edging it out in the coming months. And, yes, the iPhone on Vodafone was mentioned.

So there you go – the mighty HTC, who have been turning out some really great devices in the last 12 months, is shunted out of the way by the mighty Apple Juggernaut – and some other as yet unnamed device that will be appearing in the Vodafone portfolio in the coming months. I wonder if one of those could be another iPhone, maybe around June time? Who knows… :-)

LOL so sad. Cus I look at the HD2 as the device to beat now on technological advancement. I’ve even written to Palm begging to make a 4.3″ screened WebOS device. But apparently providers will yield to the hype surrounding the 2nd refresh of the iphone. I guess that just means HTC just needs to go on a product assault aiming to kill off the iphone with android and winmo7 when its out.

People out here still love you HD2! I’m considering trading in my G1 for an HD2 once it comes out on tmo. Maybe its a blessing they’re stopping restocks. Maybe tmo will get it sooner.
