Well, it’s more like 2.5 days at this point, but who’s counting? With just two full calendar days left in 2009, AT&T has little time to make good on their promise to offer iPhone users a data tethering plan in 2009. It’s not looking likely, but we’re still holding on to the hope that AT&T will finally launch an official iPhone tethering plan for a reasonable price.

The iPhone gained the ability to share its data connection with other computers in the iPhone 3.0 OS that Apple rolled out in mid-2009. Unfortunately, AT&T wasn’t yet ready to support iPhone tethering. In 2008, AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega said that tethering would be made available in 2009.

So, here we are. A few days before the start of a new year and still relying on older jailbroken iPhone firmwares in order to tether our iPhones to our laptops. To be fair though, AT&T has a lot more to worry about than bringing iPhone tethering to the masses.
