skype.logoIt seems Apple’s change of heart in regards to letting VoIP iPhone apps work over 3G networks is having a halo effect on other VoIP services. Shape Services, makers of the popular IM+ chat client, has announced that it has updated the IM+ for Skype app for BlackBerry to offer free WiFi-based Skype calls. The update makes IM+ for Skype the only BlackBerry app that allows free Skype calls – even internationally.

But, there’s more to the update than free Skype calls. Don’t get us wrong, we’d be happy with an update that allows free anything, but IM+ for Skype now supports avatars, contact list grid and new scrollbars. That should keep you busy on your BlackBerry when you’re not chatting on BBM or waiting for that next email to hit your inbox.
