I just received in this cheeky little gadget from Maximobileshop.com – it’s a mini external microphone for the Apple iPhone (and some iPod) devices. It’s quite a simple concept – much like a wired headset with an inline mic, this does away with all the cabling and just gives you a module you can plug in. I refer you to the product info on the site:

Whether conducting an interview, taking lecture notes, or capturing the sounds of life happening around you, simply attach mini microphone to your device for immediate voice recording capabilities

Features:

* Plug and play

* High quality microphone,fine sensibility

* Small and portable

* No need battery

Compatibility:

- Compatible with ipod nano 4G and 120GB ipod classic (with software already on the device)

- Compatible with ipod touch 2G and iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (need downloaded software such as iTalk recorder or easy recorder etc.)

I’ve given it a go and I have to say its really quite impressive – I can imagine it being very useful, along with the iPhone native voice recorder, for capturing interviews or dictation on the hop. Even better, its only 9.95 Euros! You can get it here.

    It’s a smart and simple idea.

    errr, does the normal microphone for the iPhone not work?

    for iPods, i could see this being useful, but a phone?

  • Dave

    The internal mike just isn’t very good. Try recording something using Voice Record with both the built in mic and the mic on the standard iPhone headset and you’ll hear the difference.

    Would be helpful if you had a recording of the internal mic and that of the mini-microphone that you are talking about. Maybe a link to compare both "raw" recordings…
