Broadcom announced that it has added support for the recently adopted Bluetooth v3.0 + HS (High Speed) specification across its Bluetooth and InConcert combo chips and modules. Among Broadcom’s products that have achieved Bluetooth v3.0 qualification are the BCM2070, BCM2075, BCM43225 and BCM4325 chips, along with the BCM94312 half mini-card Bluetooth + WLAN solution.
The company’s technology is now in production with ODM partners in a mini-PCIe combo module for notebook computers and a combo single chip based SIP module targeting smartphones.
In other words, we could see first Bluetooth 3.0 handsets hitting the market at some later point this year, or at least me hopes so. Scrap that – we know Samsung may be the first company to release the Bluetooth 3.0-compliant phone. And as you know, Bluetooth 3.0 promises to deliver 10 times the transmission speed over previous Bluetooth specifications, and some other cool things as well.
