Video: Verizon’s Palm Pre Plus is for moms

Friday, February 5th, 2010 at 4:46 AM PST

Verizon is somewhat strangely pitching its version of the Palm Pre – Plus, as a perfect device for today’s moms. The main idea is that the device is “smart enough to keep up with mom” and is in the context of the upcoming holiday a “perfect Valentine’s gift.” Silly me, I thought webOS is for everyone. Go figure…

Anyway, we have two Verizon’s mom-targeting Pre Plus commercials to show you. Enjoy!

And one more clip follows after the jump.

They’re simply pitching it as a Valentine’s Day gift.

No different than the ads where a guy gets his wife a car or jewels.

Regarding the ad about multiple calendars, this is something I remember hearing a women wanting in an interview years ago, to keep track of the schedules of her kids, work, husband, etc. I agree this feature is great for everyone: it lets me keep integrate calendars for my personal events, my business, and the groups I belong to. I give credit to Google for creating layered calendars that let you overlay all your calendars on one display; and Palm for bringing that to webOS.

I can’t speak to whether the Pre/Pre+ is ideal for mothers, but I have to applaud (begrudgingly) Verizon for realizing that not every smartphone is one-size-fits-all. They appear to be the only carrier attempting to segment the market.
