In an effort to sell devices with better web browsing experience, Huawei will pre-install a version of Opera’s mobile web browser in its handsets. The version that will come with Huawei’s phones is Opera Mobile 10, which was released for operators and OEMs last December.
Commenting on the news, Huawei’s Head of handset R&D, Jiang Huabing, said: “Customer expectations for mobile-phone capabilities are constantly growing. We needed a browser that’s always ahead of those expectations, anticipating our customers’ mobile Web needs and making it a reality. Opera is that browser. China represents unique growth opportunities in the mobile market, and we hope that with the addition of Opera Mobile to our handsets, more of China will soon be online.”
And for the record, Huawei shipped 30 million mobile phones in 2009 and expects to increase the figure this year.
