Sony Ericsson has chosen Discretix‘ Multi-Scheme DRM Client to “protect distribution and consumption of multimedia content” for its PlayNow services. The Swedish-Japanese handset maker will use Discretix’ solution on its smartphones running Windows Mobile and Android operating systems.

I’m not a DRM expert, hence here’s and expert from Discretix’ press release which takes about their offering:

Discretix’ Multi-Scheme DRM Client provides an outstanding level of flexibility, security and performance, and ensures quick and simple integration of all the major DRM schemes in use today including OMA DRM V1.0/2.1, Microsoft WM-DRM 10, and i-Mode DRM including CPRM\SD-Bind and SD-Video. It can also be easily expanded to support emerging schemes such as Microsoft PlayReady.

And in case you want to know more about the Multi-Scheme DRM Client, Disretix can tell you more about it at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. They are located at Hospitality Suite 7HS22 in Hall 4.

The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. I was briefly tempted by the hardware of the X10, but now i remember why i didn’t give in. SONY is the company who’s marketing strategy consists on installing malware on their client’s PCs and suing their costumers. I hoped they are past such things, but they are talking happily about DRM’s. Go Sony, put your costumers through some more misery for being stupid enough to give you money.
