CMOS imaging technology company Aptina announced the new 14-megapixel, 1.4-micron MT9F011 mobile camera image sensor that can take full HD video (1080p) at 60 fps!!!
The sensor comes with pre-processing options and features that include low-power consumption, a four-lane MIPI data interface (configurable as single, dual or quad lane), Bayer resample for improved video, 1/2.3″ optical format, and 25 degree chief ray angle to minimize module height…
I’m not sure you understand all the mumbo-jumbo above (I’m not sure I understand everything myself), but this should translate into more powerful camera phones being released in due course. As a matter of fact, Aptina said the MT9F011 mass production is expected to start in Q2 2010, meaning we could have some really powerful devices hitting the market just in time for the Christmas shopping season. Now, that’s something worth looking forward to. 😉
