Orange will charge smartphone customers for the product support. The company will launch a dedicated hotline assistance that will also include a remote assistance service, which would allow Orange staff to remotely connect to a device and solve the issue.
For instance, this special support will help users setup web and email access, synchronize and back-up their phone and assist them in connecting accessories.
Free support will stay on place, and the new service will be offered on an opt-in basis for those users who prefer dedicated support for their smartphone needs.
The smartphone support service will be available as an Orange Care package, or provided on a per call or per act basis. Specific launch timings and pricing structures will be confirmed as the service rolls out in each market. Launching in the second quarter, the service will be available in France, Switzerland, UK, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Romania, Moldova and Belgium.
When you think about it, dedicated smartphone support makes perfect sense for carriers which need to deal with first-time smartphone buyers who definitely may require more time and more trained staff to help them out. If they are willing to pay extra for a better treatment, it’s a win-win for both parties. What do you think?
