Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of Innocomm because the young company is just starting to get into the smartphone space. It could make some waves by including a TV tuner in its Android-powered Shark smartphone.
The handset will have a 3.2-inch touchscreen, sport a slim body, rock an 8-megapixel camera with flash, and have all the connection options (WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth) you’d expect. It will also have an analog TV tuner built in and Innocomm said it is working on integrating a digital TV tuner in order to get free over-the-air broadcasts in places like the United States. Right now, the Shark should retail for nearly $500 but Innocomm is trying to get it to consumers at as low as price as possible. The company told PCWorld that it expects network operators to give it away for free on contract when it is released in May or June.
Chances are, the Shark won’t be seen outside of developing markets like China or India but I find it interesting that a free, open source OS like Android gives it a puncher’s chance in the smartphone market.
