Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air (subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group) are going beyond the mobile website (available through mobile.alaskaair.com) to address their on-the-go customers. The dedicated application is released for iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile platforms and is available as a free download from www.alaskaair.com/mobile.

Using the application, users can access the most frequently used functions they need on the day of flight. In other words, that’s flight status information, flight schedules, web check-in and flight alerts. Moreover, there’s the “My Trips” feature from where you can view your itinerary, change seat, check or upgrade status, and add an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan number to a reservation. Finally, you can grab the electronic boarding pass from within the app.

It’s good to see airlines adopting wireless technology. If you remember, about two weeks ago, we reported that Alaska Airlines plans to offer WiFi on all of its aircrafts, and so do Virgin, United Airlines and Delta.
