TeliaSonera, owner of the first commercial LTE network in the world, only launched their advanced network 3 months ago, yet those crazy Swedes can’t get enough bandwidth and are upgrading their service to offer a theoretical maximum speed of 100 Mbps.

We’ve seen early benchmarks hit a peak speed of 43 Mbps, yet only maintain ~ 12 Mbps throughput, and more recent benchmarks show 45 Mbps peak and ~ 25 Mbps of consistent throughput, so this upgrade to a theoretical 100 Mbps should literally double what’s already out there now.

Press Release, originally in Swedish, but now shoved through Google Translate, after the jump.

TeliaSonera tune 4G network further

Now TeliaSonera takes the next step with next-generation mobile broadband roll-out and starting the upgrade of base stations to 100 Mbit / s. The upgrade begins in central Stockholm and then continues gradually into the rest of the 4G network in the spring. Practical speeds for the customer will vary and can reach the optimal positions up to 80 Mbit / s.

It was the end of last year TeliaSonera launched the world’s first commercial 4G network, and thus created the possibility to use more capacity-demanding services as web TV, online games or work with heavy files and applications wherever they are.

Today there 4G network in the central parts of Stockholm and in parts of the Stockholm International, Kista and Hammarby Sjöstad. Telia will build out 4G in 25 locations in Sweden. During the third quarter of this year, the 4G network that launched in Lund, Västerås, Malmö, Gothenburg, Uppsala and Linköping. The expansion will also continue, with more cities during the year.

Ericsson builds Telia’s 4G network in Stockholm and will also bear the joint 4G/LTE-core-nätet in the continued expansion in Sweden and Norway. Radio networks in the continued expansion will be delivered by Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks.
