Orange swept the board by winning three industry gongs at the prestigious Mobile News Awards 2010 this week. In the first win of the evening, it scooped the coveted Large Retailer of the year category. For the first time, the category was judged by the cumulative scores from Mobile News’ ‘Mystery Shopper’ series, with Orange emerging victorious as the outstanding front runner.

Orange also beat off fierce competition to take the best ‘Innovative Service’ award for Social Life, the mobile social networking aggregation service. Bringing together activity on sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo in one central place, the judges described the service as “another great innovation that’s aimed at the growing social networking market.”  A highly commended nod was also given in this category to the Monkey music service.

To top the evening, CEO Tom Alexander was presented with the Mobile News Lifetime Achievement award, which recognises the figures who are fundamental in shaping the mobile industry.  In an illustrious career which has spanned 25 years, Tom Alexander was crowned for his role in taking mobile phones mass market at Virgin Mobile, as well as the huge impact he’s made on the customers and employees of Orange as CEO.

Picking up the award from comedian compare Michael Mcintyre, Tom Alexander, CEO said, “My Lifetime Achievement Award topped off what was a fantastic evening for Orange.  These awards are testimony to all of the hard work done by the people of Orange, and take us even closer towards our ambition to be the best loved telecommunications company in the UK.”

The Mobile News awards are well-recognised in the industry, so to come away with three awards is VERY good going! Well done!

Ben is a 10+ year veteran of the Mobile industry – starting his career when SMS was a still a relatively new concept for most people (!), he has now consulted on everything from bleeding-edge Mobile content, to the next-gen accessories you might view it on. As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices.
