XM Canada BlackBerry Application Arriving April 12

XM Canada will be releasing an IP radio application for BlackBerry on April 12, not unlike the one its southerly neighbour has enjoyed since February. As you can see, it allows you to brows categories, look up stations and genres, and manage favourites. XM online+ for BlackBerry will itself be a free download, but requires an active XM Canada subscription – either $7.99/month standalone, or $2.99 on top of an existing account.

Licensing in Canada be a pain for internet-based broadcasters and music services, especially for such a relatively small market, but what has made this XM launch all the more confusing that up here, Sirius doesn’t own XM – they exist as separate brands. As such, XM Canada offers a few stations you won’t find on Sirius Canada, like Opera and Friends, Opie and Anthony, and various sports channels, like NHL, NBA, MLB, IndyCar, and PGA stations. Besides that, it doesn’t look like Sirius Canada has any mobile apps available whatsoever. Ouch.

BlackBerry-owners can sign up for an e-mail reminder of XM online+ availability right over here, or if you’re packing an iPhone, you can download the app they released back December.

You mention it doesn’t look like Sirius Canada has any mobile apps whatsoever, this is incorrect. Sirius Canada was the first in Canada to launch the iPhone application, which was the number 1 free app in the app store for some time, which they offer to existing Sirius customers free of charge on their existing service. Also they released their BB app on the same day as XM.
