You’ve probably already heard of Flight Control. It’s one of the most popular games in the AppStore and has been downloaded/purchased for more than 2 million times. We’ve no doubts its iPad counterpart will be a success as well, but here’s a twist – the version of the game for Apple’s tablet, Flight Control HD, will be used by Airservices Australia to train Aussie air traffic controllers!
Reuters had a chance to interview Airservices Australia’s PR director Michael Arbroath, who said: “Flight Control HD is quite popular amongst our air traffic controllers as a breaktime activity. After a while it dawned on us that guiding little computer planes is very similar to landing real big planes, particularly with regard to what we like to call the golden rule: Never let the planes collide.”
Speaking of popularity of Flight Control among Australia’s air traffic controllers, one of them, Ned Kelly, now leads the game’s global leaderboard. Firemint, the company behind the popular game, should be super proud to see its baby exceeding all expectations. 😉
