American Express is catching up with the rest of the industry. These days, everyone’s about iPad, but not American Express – they’ve just released an iPhone app, hinting us they are not on the cutting edge of technology, unfortunately. To be fair, they already had mobile website up and running and even SMS alerts, but since mobile apps are not a new thing, we honestly expected their official application to be released at least a year ago.

Anyway, they now have the official iPhone app, which allows users to pay bills while on the go, look up for transactions, manage multiple accounts, and do some other things with their money. Among the features missing for some reason are the ability to manage your online savings account, travel and corporate services.

Still, it’s good to see American Express joining the app frenzy. Hopefully, we’ll soon see them releasing their app for other platforms (Android, BlackBerry and webOS instantly come to mind) as well as “optimized for iPad” application.

Only available from the US iTunes store. Seriously? Don’t they realize they have customers in other countries? Why do some developers limit their app’s availability?
