iPhone Kicks Butt in Canada When it Comes to Web Browsing

Operating System Share - Mobile Web Browsing in CanadaVia the February 2010 Mobile Metrics report at AdMob, I noticed some quite interesting results concerning the mobile web browsing use by my fellow Canadians. Take a look at the chart above. It denotes Operating System Share for Canadians in February 2010. Notice anything? See that giant 80% chunk of the pie chart? Yeah, that shows the % of folks browsing the web from their iPhone. In comparison, it looks like Android, RIM (BlackBerry OS) and Symbian are all roughly tied for second at a paltry 5%-6%. Ouch.

Honestly, I found these numbers to be quite surprising. The majority of folks (at least, around my parts) pack a BlackBerry. Sure, you see some occasional Android love and the iPhone count is steadily growing… but BlackBerry is certainly the device of choice. Armed with that knowledge, one can only draw a conclusion that folks packing Android, BlackBerry or a Symbian do not like, prefer, enjoy, love, or USE the web browser as much as we think. AND, I suppose we can also conclude that for those that DO pack an iPhone, web browsing is the next best thing since sliced bread.

Is this simply more proof that web browsing on the iPhone remains the best experience out there?

No, it’s just continued proof that AdMob’s sites that they get data from are geared towards the iPhone. This has been covered before by others that have shown AdMob uses iPhone-only applications as part of their data group.

Stats are from Feb. I’m sure that March’s look better for Android (since Google started selling a Canuck compatible version in March)
