Don’t feel left out if you don’t have an iPad because the official Netflix app will soon come to your iPhone and iPod Touch with all the movie-streaming goodness you expect.
“Terrific response to our news today about Netflix on the iPad,” said Steve Swasey, VP of corporate communications, in a blog post. “For those of you asking whether Netflix will be on the iPhone and iPod Touch: We wouldn’t invite you to dinner without planning to serve dessert. In other words, we’re working on it so stay tuned.”
If you haven’t seen the iPad app, you really should track it down and check it out. It looks really slick and you’re able to manage your movie que and watch streaming videos extremely quickly. I’m still not sure of the use cases for it – in bed or in the bathroom? – but I would love to be able to stream shows over 3G while I’m commuting (no word if it’ll be WiFi-only or not). It’s also yet another convert for Steve Jobs in his war on plug-ins because the movie company used Microsoft’s Silverlight to stream videos to desktops but appears to be switching to H.264 encoding to reach Apple mobile users.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this one and, if you’ve tried the iPad version, let us know what you think of the app in the comments.
