This isn’t really what you would call a “pure” mobile news, but is somewhat related considering we’re talking about Boingo Wireless which has a mobile client for virtually every major mobile platform, iPad included.
The company announced that is adding more than 1,600 additional locations in Japan through a roaming partnership with NTT Communications. As a result, Boingo’s total footprint in Japan now surpasses 6,500 hotspots. On a global scale, the company is now involved in more than 125,000 hotspots from 167 leading WiFi operators in 103 countries.
“Direct” Boingo customers can get online at NTT Communications WiFi locations immediately, whereas Boingo Platform Service Partners which wholesale Boingo’s global WiFi access products, and their customers, will gain access in the near future.
For the record, NTT Communications locations include selected venues of New Otani and Prince Hotels; restaurants such as Global-Dining chains; coffee shops like PRONTO and Tully’s Coffee; as well as retailers, business facilities, libraries, airports, and train stations along the country’s major business backbone.
