Google not bringing Maps Navigator to iPhone, yet

There was a lot of excitement yesterday when Google brought Maps Navigation to the UK and Ireland because reports surfaced that the search giant would be bringing it to the iPhone.

Immediately, you had to think TomTom and its expensive services would be destroyed because Google’s offering provides pretty good turn-by-turn audible navigation for free. Unfortunately, we all got worked up over nothing.

“We did not say we would bring it to iPhone, we said to date we’ve had it on Android and that in the future it may come to other platforms but did not confirm this will be coming to iPhone at all,” a Google spokesperson said in an e-mail.

This is consistent with what we’ve heard from Google before and there’s still lingering beef between Apple and Android, so I wouldn’t look for it any time soon. I could easily see it coming to BlackBerry in the near future, though.
