Some of you may have been expecting your Sprint Hero to get your Android 2.1 update today, sadly there were enough things to say otherwise. Even the leaked Best Buy document didn’t get it right, and now Sprint has officially tweeted that they are aiming for a vague Q2 launch of Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment.
This is quite the delay we have on our hands. Going from today to potentially the end of Q2 this year is quite the leap, and its disheartening for customers who had their hopes up for today. Sprint and HTC really need to get their act together and deliver, as they’re losing some customer love. Such a delay could really hurt them during this Summer. If customers want to stay with Sprint, the HTC Evo is the obvious choice for this summer. But some customers may fee too “burned,” and don’t want to see how long the Evo will take to get an update either. With many great devices coming down the pipe for the Summer, Sprint needs to get ready.
While the Hero and Moment are not the hottest devices on the market today, they are still good phones, and deserve the attention given to even the smartest of smartphones. With the updated Sense UI probably being more power-hungry than ever, this may be a reason that it’s taken it so long to get a decent ROM out for it. But what about the Samsung Moment? Give or take a couple of Sprint only applications, the Moment basically runs stock Android.
So what gives, Sprint? What’s taking so long to get the Android 2.1 OS update out to customers? It now looks possible that the Evo 4G will be out and about before it’s first-generation brother gets an update. It’s hard not to be pretty upset with Sprint, HTC, and Samsung right now. If you were a loyal Sprint customer expecting an update today, how ya feeling now? Hell hath no fury than a scorned Sprint customer.
