Steve Jobs: Printing ‘Will Come’ to the iPad

Printing Coming to the iPad?

So, you want to be able to print from your iPad do ya? I’ve heard the question numerous times, and although this isn’t a ‘must have’ feature for me… for many it would be desirable. In a recent email from a curious customer, a question was asked of Steve Jobs, wondering if printing would come to the iPad. Here’s the back-and-forth:

Q: Why no printing on the iPad? What gives?

A: It will come.

Jobs is at his to-the-point best here, yet again. So, if the iPad becomes capable of playing nice with printers in a generation-or-two down the road… Is this something you’d be excited about? Do you wish your iPad could connect to a printer peripheral right now? Or is printing from Apple’s new tablet something you really don’t care about?

For me, much like the iPad, I probably don’t need it… But once I have the ability to print from the iPad, chances are I’ll be glad I do 🙂

Note: Of course, there’s no real way to authenticate the screenshot and email back/forth you see above… But it does seem typical of historical correspondence with Steve Jobs. Take it for what it’s worth. Printing could very well be on the horizon for the iPad.
