The rumoured BlackBerry tablet code-named Cobalt is getting some extra verification today, just not by anything solid unfortunately. A lot of the information from the initial rumour gets a nod, including the 8.9″ size, companion device status, multimedia focus, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. What’s new is the Q3/Q4 release date has been narrowed down to a December target, possibly in time for the holidays.

I’m still really dubious about RIM making their own Foleo, and still have trouble swallowing the Celio RedFly, but the tablet form factor has been getting a lot of attention lately and if BlackBerry wants to be one of the cool kids, they’ll have to keep up with the trends. Although the number of independent whispers floating out regarding the BlackBerry tablet increase its likelihood with each successive rumour, it sure would be nice to get a real picture of the thing to see what exactly RIM is thinking. I’d be curious to see if they’re actually bold enough to implement SurePress on the Cobalt.
