Samsung is not waiting around. While most people are still getting comfortable with One UI 9, the company has already kicked off internal development on One UI 9.5, and it’s moving faster than it did in previous years. That’s a good sign for Galaxy owners who want software updates sooner rather than later.
According to SammyFans, internal firmware development for One UI 9.5 has already begun on select Galaxy flagship phones. The official Beta Program won’t open until later this year, but the fact that internal testing is already underway suggests Samsung is pushing its timeline forward compared to how it handled previous point releases. For a company that runs one of the most complex Android software operations in the world, that kind of head start actually matters.
So why does a .5 update deserve this much attention? Because Samsung’s mid-cycle releases are not just minor patches. One UI 8.5, for example, brought meaningful AI feature additions and interface tweaks that felt like a real upgrade. If Samsung follows the same pattern, One UI 9.5 could bring a fresh wave of Galaxy AI improvements, refined controls, and possibly features that were not quite ready when One UI 9 shipped. That’s the thing about these point releases. They often deliver the stuff that wasn’t finished in time for the big launch.
The phones being targeted for internal testing are, as expected, Samsung’s flagship lineup. The Galaxy S25 series is almost certainly at the front of the queue, with Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip foldables likely right behind. Samsung has gotten much better in recent years about keeping its premium devices on the same update schedule, and there’s no reason to think that changes here.
The bigger picture here is about Samsung’s competition with Google. Pixel phones get fast, clean updates with very little delay. Samsung has historically been slower, but it’s been closing that gap. Starting internal development this early on One UI 9.5 is another step in that direction. And with Apple continuing to set expectations around how quickly a software update can feel like a new phone, Samsung has real pressure to keep up.
There’s also the AI angle. Samsung has been aggressively building out Galaxy AI features, and One UI 9.5 will almost certainly be a vehicle for expanding what those features can actually do. Whether that means smarter on-device processing, new productivity tools, or tighter integration with Google’s own AI stack, there’s a lot of room to grow.
