Verizon Wireless offers ScanLife Mobile Barcode application

ScanLife has scored another big distribution partner – Verizon Wireless. The carrier issued a dedicated press release explaining how ScanLife’s app works. If you don’t know how it works, here’s a super simple explanation:

  • Start the ScanLife app
  • Point your phone to some barcode
  • Get the information “behind the barcode.”

And by that information “behind the barcode,” in most cases you will be transferred to some URL where additional details about a product or service are available. In that sense, you can use ScanLife to:

  • View product details and user reviews while shopping in a store
  • Request coupon offers from magazines and other traditional forms of marketing
  • Launch audio tours on their phones from kiosks in cities such as San Francisco and other major cities
  • Connect business cards to contact information or social networking profiles

SnanLife other distribution partners include such handset makers as Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG, whereas Motorola has even invested some money in the company. As for the carrier partners, the list includes Sprint and Telefonica.
