Samsung may have forgotten its i8910 HD users, but the tech-savvy among them [users] are there to stay, for now at least. That said, you will be glad to learn that the new version of HX firmware series for the i8910 HD has been released.

The HX-V5 firmware brings a number of fixes and improvements, including fixing the Java certificate problem and improving battery life. That’s, of course, in addition to maximizing disk space on C:, providing better image quality and so on. Here are just a few other improvements/fixes:

  • media browser showing every file/icon – fixed
  • slower kinetic-scroll values
  • camera videos/images are saved with DATE instead of text by default (yyyy.mm.dd)
  • wlan-power at down 40 mw by default – saves battery
  • packet data connection set on “when needed” by default
  • exposure meter set on “normal” instead on center-weighted
  • Browser cache set back to d:\ many users reported that it’s much faster then.
  • now music player looks also on e:\sounds and f:\sounds (will find recorded sound-clips)
  • landscape standard-apps added
  • loudspeaker on when you are in call and SHAKE the phone
  • files received via Bluetooth will be now on e:\download
  • OVI-acount login on OVI maps not possible – fixed
  • Threaded-SMS-lite on auto-install and linked INTO messaging-app
  • CPU-CLOCK – Turbomode patch will come later (maybe)

You can read the full changelog from HyperX’s page. While there, you can also grab the HX-V5 firmware and install it. Make sure to backup your data before doing so — all data on disk C: will be wiped out after the upgrade.

Finally, you should know that installing an unofficial firmware may break your warranty. Don’t say we haven’t told you…
