Google Nexus One hitting third-party retailors already – N1 retail sales are a go!

I Wireless is a small wireless carrier, and T-Mobile affiliate, that will get one of the first chances to offer the Nexus One Google Phone through the brick-and-mortar retail Channel. Yes, today you can walk into any of the 250 I Wireless stores found in Iowa, western Illinois, and eastern Nebraska, and pick up a Nexus One. But you’ll have to pay a chunky price for it.

I Wireless is offering the Nexus One for $299 on a two-year contract. That’s quite a bit more than what you have to pay if you go to Google’s online-only webstore, which will be closing soon. The HTC Hero (GSM), as well the Motorola Milestone, accompany  I Wireless’s Android offerings at more reasonable prices. But the story here is for the Nexus One.

This Will be the first time you can walk into a store and actually put your  hands on a Google Nexus One prior to purchasing one. The one good thing about going through the small carrier is that you can choose any calling plan you want. If you by a Nexus One on contract from Google’s store, you have only one choice of calling plans.

I’d still tell anyone interested in getting a Nexus One to just buy it unlocked. You’re not locked into a contract, then you have the option of choosing any monthly rate plan. Just remember that data service on a phone like this is a necessity – if you think you don’t need a data plan, maybe you’re not ready for a smartphone just yet. Nonetheless, it’s good to see the Nexus One getting some love, and perhaps some retail love will give the N1 the sales boost it so desperately needs.

The Nexus One is still an amazing phone, and I’m still holding onto it, despite the HTC Evo 4G and its awesome 4.3-inch display. The EVO is a gorgeous device, it bests the Nexus One in terms of one-ups with specs, but, it’s nothing completely revolutionary. Still, I can’t say I wouldn’t mind an HDMI-out port on my Nexus One.
