There’s been some confusion about whether or not the Samsung i897 that had made it through the Bluetooth SIG last month was actually the Galaxy S. With some pictures of the proper device, we can see that at very least the i897’s casing is different, if still packing identical specs (4″ AMOLED touchscreen, Android 2.1, 5 megapixel camera). There’s also word that the i897 packs a Snapdragon processor, but we can only presume it clocks in at 1 Ghz. The splash screen clearly shows AT&T branding, so even if they don’t actually get the Galaxy S proper, they’ll at least be getting something a lot like it. This particular device was issued to Korean developers as a pure “Google experience” Android handset, but there’s no telling if it’ll ship that way.
It’s hard to tell at this point if the i897 is actually the same device with a simple repackaging, or if there will be more substantial changes. It looks to me like all of the keys are in the same place, so I’m leaning towards the prior. There doesn’t seem to be an indentation for the optical trackpad though, so it’s hard to make a call conclusively. What do you guys think, are we going to find anything surprising in the i897, or is it just going to be the Galaxy S built for AT&T?
