TELUS iPad Data Plan

I just received a nifty little email from one of my TELUS contacts, and wouldn’t you know it…Looks like TELUS is joining the iPad data plan party as well.

Getting right down to the heart-of-the-matter here is TELUS’ iPad data plan offering:

500MB per month for $20

That’s it. Simple, huh? The important thing to note here is the overage charges. Any additional data will be charged at 5 cents per MB up to a max of $30. So, if you look at it like I do, TELUS is offering an UNLIMITED iPad data plan for $50 per month. That is, if you download apps like a banshee and watch videos and work on 3D renderings while out-and-about.

I really want to see if TELUS will throw a cap on this if people really start abusing this one. I mean, I could see a whole whackload of folks going to town. $50 per month for unlimited? Sure, that’s another $50 per month most folks will not need to spend… But if you’re addicted to your iPad or are finding the device is fast becoming a useful tool in your daily routine… $50 may well be worth it.

Actually, TELUS has clarified… There is a HARD cap of 5GB. I guess they got nervous when they kept reading that people were saying it was unlimited for $50. So, if you're a modest user, over 250MB to about 1GB, the $20+overage plan is probably your best deal. If you're going to go over a Gig, then Bell or Rogers is going to be cheaper. Given Bell's superior network and larger wi-fi coverage, I'd give the nod to Bell.

but remember the iPad runs on 3G, Edge which Rogers runs on boths and bell and Telus only has 3G, if they lose their 3G signal then you will have no service at all, that applies to their 3G smart phones, whereas Rogers, if their 3G signal is weak it will drop to EDGE , then GPRS

    Go Rogers Go

While this may be true, Bell has more coverage area is most provinces than Rogers does. I know, I am in Newfoundland, and we cannot get Rogers signal outside of major urban centers like St. John's. So there is little chance of loosing Bell signal unless you're simply not in a service range, and then you're not going to worry about an iPad anyway.
