Canada’s Wind Mobile has been eyeballing a Vancouver launch for some time, and it’s now ready to rock. The launch party is happening this Thursday, and buyers looking to sign up will be glad to hear Wind has extended their Everybody Winds promo until the end of June. As if that wasn’t enough to expand their coverage, Wind has also launched their U.S. roaming with T-Mobile, soon to be followed by international roaming. The rates match what they have been charging for any calls outside of their other four Home zones in Canada: $0.25/minute
With Vancouver more or less covered (here’s an incomplete map of Wind’s tower’s in the area), most major Canadian city centres are taken care of. Montreal (and Quebec City, to a lesser extent) is still the big missing sore thumb, but I have a feeling that won’t change any time soon. There’s still nothing in the Maritimes, like Halifax or St. John’s, but those are some pretty tiny pockets compared to areas that could still use service in Ontario.
As far as the roaming agreement in the U.S. goes, I’m interested to see how many new ways Wind and T-Mobile will be working together. Wind execs have already hinted that many of the devices that come to T-Mobile will find their way to Wind, and offering service to U.S. roamers is huge step for Wind. The fact that they’re both on the AWS bands mean there’s quite a bit of common ground they can work with.
