Voxofon: We’ll have the first mobile VoIP solution for Windows Phone 7

The Windows Phone 7 race has begun, as we have Voxofon issuing a press release to announce they are the first company to bring mobile VoIP to Microsoft’s upcoming mobile platform. The weird thing, though, is that Windows Phone 7 is still not available, but that “minor point” shouldn’t stop anyone from saying they are the first.

Anyway, Voxofon promised that its future WinMo 7 users will be able to save up to 98% (over traditional telecom prices) on international calls. Moreover, they reminded us their application is already available for other platforms, including the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and Palm Pre and Pixi.

Honestly, I think this whole “we are the first” idea is kinda stupid. In that sense, you could already say Voxofon for Android 3.0 is in works as we speak, but what’s the point? Besides, I doubt Skype, Truphone and other mobile VoIP companies are sleeping… It’s a slow news day, I’m sure you can tell…

One slight problem… Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 will be missing many features, and one of them is that it will be incapable of any networking apart from HTTP (used to transmit text on the internet).

What this means is that Windows Phone 7 is incapable of doing any Voice-Over-IP. It won't be happening.

What you'll find is that Voxofon's app is cheating by making a standard telephone call (rather than VoIP) to get to Voxofon's server, and then using VoIP for the second leg of the call. It's not a good solution, and it is not bringing VoIP to Windows Phone 7. There is a reason that Skype publicly announced that it has abandoned Windows Phone 7, to concentrate on Android (which can do real VoIP).

“What this means is that Windows Phone 7 is incapable of doing any Voice-Over-IP.”

You truly are clueless, or you’re an obvious Android sycophant. Windows Phone 7 most certainly can do VOIP. As for Skype, they will show up on Windows Phone 7. They comes to their senses sooner or later.
