If you were hoping to get your hands on the stellar HTC Droid Incredible for Verizon Wireless, it looks like you’re going to have to wait a bit. Due to the strong demand and component shortages, the device won’t ship from Verizon’s online store until July 12 at the earliest.

The handset sports a large 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA touch display, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI and a bevy of connectivity options. It has been the star of a few “Droid does” commercials and it has seemed to resonate with Verizon customers. Since it was released, we’re been hearing that it has been very difficult to get a hold of because it’s so popular.

Verizon has said it cannot get enough units out there due to a component shortage on HTC’s side. In particular, the handset maker is reportedly having trouble obtaining enough 3.7-inch AMOLED screens from Samsung to keep up with demand.

Is this phone worth the wait? It may very well be. From our full review:

The Incredible is, well, pretty damn Incredible. The Incredible’s feature-set is one of the most impressive of any smartphone currently available today. You get high-end hardware packed into a slim and sexy package – and the hardware works well, without lag or any major snafus. The styling of the handset (the battery cover comes to mind) may not appeal to everyone, but we’d guess that most people will find it attractive enough to compete with the iPhone and the Nexus One.

Of course, by the time the Incredible is shipping there will be plenty of other, killer options including the iPhone 4 and possibly the Samsung Galaxy S. Check out our Superphone Shootout for all the information on this summer’s high-end smartphones.

With the Droid Incredible, Evo 4G, iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S, it’s definitely being a good time for smartphone fans.
