In a clear counteroffer to Mobilicity’s grab for worldly customers, Wind Mobile now has add-ons for unlimited calling to similar countries. Subscribers can call China, Hong Kong, India, Bangladesh, South Korea, Singapore, or Taiwan all they want for $20/month, or more occasional callers can get a $0.05/minute preferred rate for $5/month.
Currently, Mobilicity offers plans for south and east Asia, at the same $20 price point, but now that Wind is out in Vancouver (which has a healthy number of immigrants) and Mobilicity isn’t there yet, Wind’s plans will likely get a lot of attention. I can only imagine this will be the first of many incidents where two of Canada’s new, small, agile wireless service providers buts heads. Just think about how much the competition will heat up when Public Mobile really gets moving, and they all eventually get big enough for Rogers, Bell and Telus to start to worry.
