If you use Shazam for your Android phone now, then its time you saw the light – the superior SoundHound music tagging app is now available on the Android Market, and has more features and capabilities than any competitor of its kind.

SoundHound is a music recognition application, which is similar to the popular Shazam application, but allows the user to sing, or hum a song into the microphone. That’s a big deal for those times when you remember the tune, and can hum it, but just don’t know the words or the name of the song. SoundHound is very good at figuring out what you’re listening to, humming, or singing, and I have yet to have it return incorrect results for me.

The application also comes with a voice-directed search function, enabling searches of the title of a song, or the artist’s name just by using your voice. Results will yield links to videos, the artist’s discography, info, and much more. Plus, you can easily share your findings through Twitter, or email. What’s even better about SoundHound is that it will identify your songs much quicker than you’ll ever see on Shazam. Oh, and you also get song lyrics automatically!

The free SoundHound app offers unlimited voice and text searches, unlimited lyrics, and five free music recognition searches every month. With the premium version of the application, SoundHound Infinity, you can expect everything unlimited, and for $4.99, it’ll be worth it. SoundHound been available for the iPhone and iPad for sometime now, and finally Android is getting a taste of the powerful application. Searching for music on your mobile phone just got a whole lot easier.

So if you’ve recently downloaded SoundHound, what do you think of it so far? Have you opted for the free version, or did you just jump on board with SoundHound Infinity? I don’t think I’ll be going back to Shazam anytime soon- what’s the point? With a faster, and easier alternative with more options around for Android now, all I’ve gotta say is Shazam be damned!

You're not trying to say this is new, are you? I've been using this app when it was still Midomi when I first got my Nexus One (in January). I'm not sure, but if I had to guess, I would imagine it was out much longer before then too. I know I used an early Java beta of it on Symbian years ago too.
