2010 U.S. Open Golf Championship App for iPhone

Are you ready to take in the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach? The first round starts tomorrow, and quite honestly… I can’t wait! Pebble Beach is one of the most famous courses in the world, designed back in 1919 by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. I could go on and on about this course, but I’m not going to. What I’d like to do is bring an app to iPhone users’ attention. One that will make their 2010 U.S. Open a more enjoyable one.

The other day, while looking at available updates for various apps on my iPhone, I noticed that the U.S. Open Golf Championship app from the USGA was available for an update. Naturally, I assumed the update would include a whole new setup for the 2010 U.S. Open (at the moment, the app was still showing old info for the Open last year at Bethpage Black)… and wouldn’t you know it, I was right.

After running the update (didn’t take that long at all), I was greeted with 2010 U.S. Open goodness. New splash screen, an updated interface, and most importantly, new information for this year’s tourny. Once you pop open the app you’ll find numerous sections just screaming out for you to tap on and enjoy. There’s a video area that allows you to tune-in to watch featured groups and dedicated hole coverage. In addition, there’s on-demand highlights too. A scoring section gives you up-to-the-moment scoring from the course. The news area is of course packed full of noteworthy articles and updates… a players section gives you player bios and more, handy if you’d like to know more about that underdog standing atop the leaderboard. There’s even a new ‘on course tweets’ section that makes it easy to tune into tweets originating from the course. Very cool. All of this is all well and good, but the section I enjoy the most has to be the ‘course’ section. This area allows you to check out an overview, description, and multiple flyovers of each hole. I find it fun to check out the track the pros are playing on any given week, and by exploring the course section of the app, you’re going to feel like you’re really there!

The U.S. Open Golf Championship app for iPhone and iPod touch is a free download. Give it a spin, I feel it’s the ideal companion for ultimate U.S. Open enjoyment… both from home AND from the course. Enjoy the tournament everyone!

Sorry, but this app sucks. It loads the IBM commercial fine, but then crashes just before loading the actual US Open coverage. The Masters app was awesome, but this one is very disappointing.
