Less than a month ago, SPB Software released its SPB Mobile Shell for touch-enabled Symbian S60 devices. Now the company is out with an updated version which is much more memory efficient, reducing RAM consumption by 10 MB! That’s a lot of memory, hinting us SPB made tons of code optimizations under the hood. This in turn means that the updated version (3.5.5) of the application will work on more phones which don’t come with sufficient RAM.

In addition, SPB Mobile Shell now comes with a media player widget, allowing users to control their music right from the homescreen. Moreover, there are 4 new themes to choose from…

I’m a big fan of SPB Mobile Shell for both Windows Mobile and Symbian. Let’s face it, both mobile operating systems come with a sucky user interface and installing an app such as this one will definitely make your phone usage more enjoyable.

SPB Mobile Shell for Symbian works on all touch-enabled S60 5th Edition devices and you can grab it for $29.95. A 15-day free trial version is also available.

A real frustration on my N97 is that some of the widgets end up on top of others when I switch from portrait to landscape mode.

then just alter the layout for landscape… it will switch between the 2 easily.
