One of the Foursquare for webOS developers has gotten a little excited about the next release, and decided to share some of the new features on the way. On top of the usual bug fixes and UI optimizations, you’ll be able to refresh the friend feed and nearby listings with a forward swipe, attach videos to check-ins and shouts, live search results for venues which pop up as you type, and there will be a new navigation menu, pictured above.
Foursquare is a popular mobile check-in application that lets you share your location with friends on a place-by-place basis. You get completely frivolous (but fun) rewards for checking in regularly to the same spots, and if the locations aren’t in Foursquare’s database, you can add them yourself. Foursquare plugs in to Twitter and Facebook, so you don’t have to nag your friends to sign up to another social network in order to get some utility out of it.
There’s a bunch of other smaller tweaks, which are in the full changelog after the jump. Anyone with a Palm Pre or Pixi can download the current version of Foursquare for webOS at the link below, and even if you’re packing something else, Foursquare probably has you covered.

Changes:
- Search now does livesearch as you type

- Fixed a bug that showed the search field if you tapped the gesture area or swiped back
- Added forward swipe gesture to refresh nearby venues and friends’ checkins a la Bad Kitty
- Can now attach videos to check-ins and shouts
- Extended log-in timeout to 15 seconds instead of 10 to limit the amount of false “Foursquare appears to be down” errors
- Supports setting ringtone from Free Music Ringtones app
- Added ability to launch venues from a URL or venue ID by passing them as launchParams (Documentation forthcoming)
- Added character counter below shout and checkin text fields (count considers photo/video URL length)
- Photo host list on shout and checkin now remembers last host selected
- User Twitter profiles can be opened in Bad Kitty, TweetMe, or web browser (once BK and TM add the functionality)

- GPS accuracy slider preference now shows value while sliding and not just when sliding is finished
- Fixed a bug that would prevent login if you changed your password on the Foursquare site
- Twitter links that go to web browser now open in mobile.twitter.com (nicer) instead of m.twitter.com
- Tapping a nearby special now opens that venue’s detail scene
- App reports stats to Metrix
- Created AJAX wrapper functions that trap server errors and display messages accordingly

- Tips and todos are now tabbed instead of being in one list

- New navigation menu (a la Facebook)
- Friend requests are now displayed in the navigation menu (still in friends list also)
- Added a preference to auto-close dashboard notifications after a user-selected amount of time
To-do:
- Add preference to opt out of Metrix anonymous stats collecting
- Fix bug where venues don’t load and app shows accuracy of 0 meters. Occurs because the Service Request for the GPS sometimes gets garbage collected (I think)
- Changing visual appearance of Badge listings
- Finish fixing headers on all other scenes
- Remove unused images from package to slim down install size
- Attempt to speed up launching of app
- Add icon for new friend requests
Add badge to menu button to indicate new friend requests
