New Sprint HTC EVO 4G ad makes us less giddy

While still a great piece of hardware, in the mobile world, the Sprint HTC EVO 4G is already in danger of becoming yesterday’s news. It seems like once the device has been out for a month or so, we start looking to newer, upcoming phones to sate our mobile tech needs. That’s just a hazard of our business. Nevertheless, that’s certainly not stopping Sprint from moving forward with their EVO ad campaign, why would it?

The video below is a good ad, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t seem to have the Je ne sais pas that the first EVO ad had shown us – even if the new ad shows off more features of the device than the previous one. After seeing the new Epic 4G ad, it seems that it’s going for a more upbeat, and fun approach, where the EVO is supposed to evoke.. awe? Obviously, they couldn’t use the same ad model for the Epic 4G, how do you think that would go? “Second means that you’re already behind. Second is the first loser. Second doesn’t restart anything. What will you do with the Epic 4G? The second 4G phone. Only from Sprint, the five minutes ago network.” Oh, I can see it now.

While the ad shows many of the EVO 4G’s features, it comes off as a little uninspiring. Everyone and their mother knows what the phone can do for the most part, and most consumers will mostly remember that it’s a 4G phone, which is very limited at the moment. The ad will certainly perk up the ears of those who for some reason have never heard of the device, and owners of the device will feel pride in owning it when they see it. But Sprint could definitely advertise the phone in a more aggressive manner, and I think they should.

What do you think about the ad? Good enough, or should Sprint try to pack a punch with their EVO ads? We know how Verizon pushes their Android devices, should Sprint try to match them?

Check out the video after the break!
