The Samsung Intercept was scheduled to launch on Sprint July 11, but one lucky shopper picked his up early and provides us with a hands-on tour. The Intercept runs Android 2.1 (with Google), 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.2″ 800 x 480 touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, has an optical trackpad, and landscape slide-out keyboard. The video doesn’t really reveal anything unexpected, but it’s interesting to know that Best Buy is potentially selling these bad boys early. The reviewer says that he paid $100 for it, presumably on contract, and he thinks it’ll go for $130 from Sprint.

As a sequel to the Moment, the Intercept looks promising, but it would be an unfair fight when compared to some of the high-end Android phones coming out, like the HTC EVO 4G and the Motorola Droid X There’s still no sign of the Samsung Intercept in Sprint’s online store, but odds are it’ll be coming soon.

I think this early release has been dumbed down. I think they may have cleaned up the original moment and the intercept is going to be a bit different. Why would they release a new successor for a phone with all the same features. The moment has the 3.2Mpix camera, it also is already running 2.1. Again why would they release a “new” or “next Gen” phone that is no better than the original.
