eMobile: We have the fastest network in Japan!

While the majority of world is still moving to HSPA, Japanese operator eMobile has soft-launched the latest HSPA+ based mobile network that provides theoretical peak download speeds of 42 Mb/s. In other words, it’s the fastest mobile network in the Land of the rising Sun, and eMobile spares no words to emphasize this, very important selling point. However, at the moment, the new faster network is not available and the commercial launch in major metro areas of Tokyo, Tokai and Osaka is planned for later this year.

eMobile operates the fourth-largest network in Japan with 2.5 million users, or 2.3% of the market, according to data from Wireless Intelligence. At the same time, it’s also the fastest growing operator with year-on-year growth of 52.54%.

Unlike its competitors — NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and SoftBank — eMobile is focused on providing data-driven services. It launched HSDPA flat-rate data offering back in March 2007 and plans to move to LTE by 2012…
