The Motorola Droid X is probably one of the best handsets you can buy when it’s launched later this week on Verizon. There have been rumors that the number of Droid X units available per store would be quite limited. Today those rumors are looking scary-true.
Earlier this week, the Verizon warehouse looked to only have somewhere near 25,000 Motorola Droid X units available. Now that the devices are being shipped to stores, that number has dropped to under 10k, and who knows when Verizon will get re-upped. With the advertising push that will likely accompany the launch of the X, it would be wise of Verizon to try to get as many devices as possible. You’d imagine that if the carrier opens at midnight of the 15th, that they would have a steady supply to carry them over. Since there have been few advertisements for the device at this point, Big Red may not be too worried about running out just yet. But, as the ads start flooding newspapers and TVs, Verizon better be ready to deliver a device that customers can get their hands on – otherwise, we could have another Android handset delay on Verizon.
The device won’t be for everyone though. It’s large screen could make some small-handed users uncomfortable when holding it. If that’s the case, I’d suggest you to get the Droid Incredible, but even that phone is having supply issues of its own. Furthermore, if you aren’t into the X, you may want to wait for the Droid 2, which is could drop as soon as next month, likely with Android 2.2 Froyo pre-installed.
If the Droid Incredible, X, and 2 can’t keep up with demand, we could see all three Android superphones musterings sales that would amount to the successful launch of just a single device. Let’s hope that Verizon can keep up with the demand, as all this potential waiting may just make a potential Droid owner want to go elsewhere. Vibrant, anyone?
