Foursquare keeps growing like crazy. Just when they received some fresh money from Andreessen Horowitz and others, the popular location-based social network announced that it has crossed the 2 million users mark. That’s all while adding around 100,000 new users per week — three months ago the company reached the first million users milestone.
In other words, Foursquare grows at the faster pace than its fierce competitor – Gowalla. There are also other similar location-based services like MyTown, Brightkite and Loopt, all of which have already crossed the 2 million users mark, with Loopt counting more than 4 million.
So what’s next for Foursquare and/or Gowalla? If I was sitting at a board of any of the two companies I would insist on developing a mobile application for other platforms. I’m thinking Symbian, Windows Mobile, Jave ME, Brew and perhaps even Bada. Both Foursquare and Gowalla are looking for even more users and what’s the better way to get them than to expand the reach to new “frontiers” (that’s platforms, actually). 🙂
