Motorola portrait slider Droid caught in spy pics, Pre-like device going to Verizon?

Motorola keeps churning out devices left and right, and are well on their way to obtaining their goal of releasing 20 Android devices this year. The newest of the bunch is a smaller, portrait slider devices that looks very Palm Pre-like while still retaining it’s Droid roots, according to new spy pics that show the small Motorola Android phone.

The smartphone market is going towards large, touchscreen devices, but Motorola is definitely catering to all markets with their Android lineup. With only a handful of powerful smartphones out in the wild, the manufacturer has apparently not forgotten about the lower-end market – Motorola is the company that made devices like the Backflip, Devour, and CLIQ, after all. The new slider we’re seeing in newly leaked spy pics could go either way – high- or low-end – but the hardware itself will be the deciding factor. That said, I couldn’t imagine this Android slider sporting the processor in the flagship Verizon Motorola Droid X, but anything’s possible.

I’m not in love with the design, but I’ll wait to get this bad boy in my hands to make solid judgment. I used to really dislike the look of the original Droid, but it grew on me, and once we see some better pictures of the thing, I started digging it. The keyboard on this vertical slider looks spacious enough, though the screen may be a little too small for most Android fans’ liking.

While nothing is confirmed, I’d find it hard to imagine this device will hit market sporting stock Android, as Motoblur seems to adorn all of Motorola’s lower-end smartphones. I don’t expect this handset to be any different. And, the usual four capacitive Android buttons are found at the bottom of the screen, if you had any doubt that the device will be running Android.

The slider has Verizon all over it since it’s sporting the infamous Droid Eye. For all we know, the handset may just be a repackaged Motorola Charm, aimed at heavy texters that want a keyboard, but don’t care about having the latest and greatest features on the device.

We’ll keep a look out for any new details about this baby, it may not be too long until we see the slider in stores.

    Thanks for the article.

Note that "while still retaining it’s Droid roots " should be "its" without an apostrophe.
